A ship at the San Diego Naval Base called the USS Bonhomme Richard continues to burn after a fire broke out Sunday morning. The amphibious assault ship has seen federal and Navy firefighters come together in an attempt to subdue the fire that rages on.
As of 3:30 p.m. Pacific time July 13, a total of 59 personnel, 36 sailors, and 23 civilians, were treated for minor injuries with none hospitalized, the Naval Surface Forces tweeted. But the Navy is determined to save the ship.
“We’ve been at it for over 24 hours now and we’re going to get it until it’s done,” said Rear Adm. Philip Sobeck, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Three, at a press conference on Monday.


The ship was undergoing maintenance when the fire broke out and the cause of the fire remains unclear.
